With the release of the iPhone 16 series, I conducted an in-depth battery life test and compared it with other major flagship phones on the market. This test includes 13 devices, featuring the iPhone 16, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max, last year’s iPhone 15 series, and the latest Android flagships. While newer Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chips are expected to be released in the coming months, this test still provides valuable insights into the current battery performance of these smartphones.
Here are the key highlights from my test:
1. iPhone 16 Pro Max: Strong Battery Performance
Apple claims the iPhone 16 Pro Max has the longest battery life of any iPhone ever made, and my tests confirmed that. With its 6.9-inch screen and A18 Pro chip, along with the largest battery capacity ever in an iPhone, it lasted 11 hours and 33 minutes, earning it third place in my ranking.
2. Vivo X100 Pro: Battery King
Although the Vivo X100 Pro isn’t the newest flagship, its MediaTek Dimensity 9300 chip delivered an outstanding performance, lasting 12 hours and 22 minutes, making it the top performer in this battery test. It surpassed many Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 phones and showcased the potential of MediaTek chips in battery efficiency.
3. Honor Magic 6 Pro: Impressive Runner-Up
The Honor Magic 6 Pro also performed impressively, clocking in at 11 hours and 33 minutes, earning second place. Its optimized power management makes it an excellent choice for long-term use.
4. Overall Performance of the iPhone 16 Series
The iPhone 16 series performed well across the board. While the base iPhone 16 ran out of battery after 9 hours and 11 minutes, the Pro and Pro Max models held up strongly. Notably, the iPhone 16 Pro lasted almost an hour longer than last year’s iPhone 15 Pro.
5. Other Flagship Performances
The Android flagships in the test were consistently solid. The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra lasted 9 hours and 14 minutes, just slightly behind the iPhone 16. Meanwhile, the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL showed significant improvements over its predecessors, with a more stable performance and no early battery drain.
6. Overnight Standby Test
In the 8-hour overnight standby test, the Vivo X100 Pro performed best, losing only 2% of its battery, while the Google Pixel lost 6%, showing relatively weaker performance.
Conclusion
In this test, the Vivo X100 Pro topped the chart in terms of battery life, followed by the Honor Magic 6 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max. All the phones performed impressively in terms of battery endurance, with the iPhone 16 series showing significant improvements, especially with its latest chips. If you’re looking for a smartphone with excellent battery life, these three are highly recommended.
If you’re waiting for upcoming releases, the arrival of Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chips is likely to further improve battery performance, so stay tuned!
